Lolita 52 Challenge / day 11 / 3 trends I wish would come back

I don’t think I’ve been in the lolita fashion space long enough to notice any trends, so I went on reddit to see what trends people remember. Here are some things from the past that I’d like to see reemerge today!

mini hats & mini crowns

I’ve talked about mini crowns a few times before and I’m still as obsessed! The coord on the right for example is really cute

For a long time I’ve wanted the one from spica but I recently started doubting if it might look weird on my head since it’s pretty high, and I will buy it eventually, but I feel like before that I might try out a smaller crown from xianyu!

Gobelin

I think this is mainly popular within the old school side of the lolita fashion community,

I wish Gobelin could make a general resurgence, and we’d have more Gobelin releases. I especially wish Chinese brands would tap in too! At the moment the only brand I know is actively making Gobelin releases is wirehead.shop

Black x white striped socks!

Okay I might be biased (again) but I just love the way they were so common before and the way people would pair them seemingly with random coords and they look good every single time

It's actually my go to if I’m not sure how coord a main piece; black x white kc, white blouse and my striped socks!

Bonus

Carrying a stuffed animal with you! Make them an essential part of coords again!

Lolita 52 Challenge / day 10 / How I first found out about Lolita

I knew very vaguely about lolita fashion around 2020 just by being active on the internet, TikTok to be specific. The only thing I remember was people arguing about the name, to me it was always a fact that lolita fashion doesn’t come from the book, but I had never explored the fashion/subculture any deeper than that but I was intrigued by j-fashion in general (it’s exhausting that people STILL argue about it today)

Despite being an outsider I was still able to recognize the fashion. My first time seeing a lolita in real life was this black girl at a bus stop dressed in all pink. When I got off the bus I told her she looked really cute and asked what the style was called (just to strike up a small conversation), she called it coquette, I was 100% it was lolita, so I was really confused but didn’t push any further. Thinking back on it now, maybe she didn’t want to say “lolita” in fear of confusion

Anyways I think meeting a black girl fully embracing a kawaii style changed something in me and I hope by being myself, I too can inspire other black people to embrace their authentic selves and not be afraid to take part of alternative (and especially kawaii) spaces

In late 2024 I started getting into lolita fashion too and Angelic Pretty’s 2010 OTT sweet era is was inspired me the most, before I turned to old school (casual) sweet. The image on the right is one that really struck to me. OTT sweet isn’t my thing anymore but Starberry Parlour Tiered JSK (which used to be my dream dress) will always hold a spot in my heart

The image on the right is on that really stuck to me at the time. OTT sweet isn’t my thing anymore but Starberry ParlourTiered JSK (which used to be my dream dress) will always hold a spot in my heart

Lolita 52 Challenge / day 9 / 5 keywords that describe my personal Lolita style

Old school

this era is where I get all my inspiration from ^_^

Sweet

self-explanatory! I never really considered getting into any other substyle, sweet and cute is truly the
one for me

Simple

this kinda ties back into old school. I wouldn’t say coord back then where automatically simple but for example compared to today’s average, there is a major difference generally speaking. Also my meaning of old school is more about how the clothes were worn daily, so you’re not gonna find THAT many antiquate details when there are just your everyday clothes you know

Comfortable

back with the lifestyler aspect, I need my coords to be comfortable so I can wear them for prologue amount of time

Poodles!

I love 99% of things that feature poodles motifs and I want it to be a permanent part of my lolita coords! So far I own 4 mainpieces that feature poodles (3 of which are part of my daily wardrobe) and I’d like to collect more mainpieces but also accessories and bags. I love that all my friends know how much I love poodles and recommend to be products featuring them~

Lolita 52 Challenge / day 8 / Why don't I wear Lolita more often?

Well, I claim to be a lifestyler, and it’s true! but I only wear lolita if I plan on leaving the house, most of the time I'm in my pyjamas at home, I don’t feel the need to get dressed up if I'm not planning on going out anywhere

I wear lolita when I’m attending my university classes, I wear lolita to hang out with my friends, I wear lolita at cons, I wear lolita to run errands and I sometimes wear it at home for fun of it even if I have no plans. It gives me kind of an energy boost! I might start cleaning around a bit, I record fit checks and take pictures, and also researching about lolita fashion feels special when you’re wearing the clothes at the same time!

Picture of the week - week 10

I’m picking this picture for as the picture of the week! It was taken not too long after that lolita/j-fashion sale event I went to Sunday the 19th. I still cant believe I managed to score two wishlist items in one day and I’m so happy about the way the skirts fit me, especially this Meta skirt

For a long time I avoided skirts because I was worried about the way they wouldn’t suit me, but I realized that I could enjoy them too, a whole new world with lots of new opportunities opened up to me and I plan on taking full advantage of it…

I’ve been adding a lot of skirts to my wishlist especially from Meta and I’ve started to pay more attention to cutsews too! (recently bought one from ETC)

I’m really excited about my new coords for the future! Right now I'm heading towards a very casual sweet direction and I'm loving it <3

Lolita 52 Challenge / day 7 / Why I wear lolita?

To be honest, when I first got into lolita it was out of boredom. I’ve been wanting to do something different with my appearance, so I went on tiktok and looked at different j-fashion styles. I had heard about lolita before, but I didn’t know anything about it except that the name had nothing to do with the book, so I decided to learn more about it and that’s how I started to fall in love with lolita fashion

Of course I really liked it’s appearance too, but I especially loved the message, the intention and the values behind this fashion. I spend a lot of time reading essays and any other projects (?) related to lolita fashion written by other people. It’s around that time I discovered Novala Takemoto and he’s been holding an important part in my heart and lolita journey since then

Today I’d like to say I wear lolita fashion because not only is it beautiful, it bring me a lot of joy. In fact it makes me the happiest in the world. I love the strong sense of community, and I love the shared love we all have for these clothes with people today and also those in the past. I personally don’t wear it as a sign of rebellion, but I recognize those who did, and I respect them a lot, I’d like to carry their honor and keep being myself no matter what. And especially as a sweet old schooler I love how daily-like the coords look and I want to achieve that too as a lifestyler

I love how community driven this subculture is

I love the way lolitas strive to preserve and document the subculture

I love the infinite amount of ways you can style a coord

I love the euphoria when you see your coord in a reflection

I love the ability to shop for clothes that are over 15 or even 20 years old

I love planning different coords in my head

I love the way lolita makes me feels cute, makes me feel pretty and I’d like to continue wearing this fashion everyday

Lolita makes me so happy

Lolita 52 Challenge / day 6 / My favorite Lolita brand

Having to pick only ONE brand is really hard…But I decide to go with Metamorphose Temps de Fille, specifically the old school era (I prefer all my favorite brands old school)

I’d like to start with their blouses. Theres so much variety from more dressed up to simpler and I appreciate their T (tall) size SO much. And even today, modern Meta accommodates for underrepresented body types well. I might be biased but I think there should be more tall releases, just make the sleeves and blouses longer!

A lot of their old blouses seem to have back shirring with waist ties and not only is it a practical combo but really beautiful too. I desperately want  to collect more old school meta blouses!!

I love our shared loved for poodles... ੯•໒꒱ Items with poodle motifs are usually the ones I look for/gravitate towards and honestly I just feel like Meta gets me like no other. I like their sailor themed items and I feel like Meta is quite experimental too! Their cutsews and cardigans are also cute, honestly they cover all the basics!

Right now I'm hyperfixated on skirts so I haven’t looked much at JSKs lately but Meta’s are so well constructed and there’s a lot of varying styles. I’m more into the basic sweet style. Speaking of skirts I really admire how they release multiple lengths of the same design. I now know to go for mini but before getting my hands on my Meta skirt I always assumed the midi length would be best suitable for a tall person like me, so I really appreciated there was an option for us too ^_^

I currently own one Meta skirt and I’m so in love with it! I didn’t expect it to fit me so well! I was a few skirts in my wishlist, and I should spend a day looking over more of their designs and add them to my wishlist too, there’s so much left for me to discover!

May more old school Metamorphose Temps de Fille find it’s way to me~
