Lolita 52 Challenge / day 11 / 3 trends I wish would come back

I don’t think I’ve been in the lolita fashion space long enough to notice any trends, so I went on reddit to see what trends people remember. Here are some things from the past that I’d like to see reemerge today!

mini hats & mini crowns

I’ve talked about mini crowns a few times before and I’m still as obsessed! The coord on the right for example is really cute

For a long time I’ve wanted the one from spica but I recently started doubting if it might look weird on my head since it’s pretty high, and I will buy it eventually, but I feel like before that I might try out a smaller crown from xianyu!

Gobelin

I think this is mainly popular within the old school side of the lolita fashion community,

I wish Gobelin could make a general resurgence, and we’d have more Gobelin releases. I especially wish Chinese brands would tap in too! At the moment the only brand I know is actively making Gobelin releases is wirehead.shop

Black x white striped socks!

Okay I might be biased (again) but I just love the way they were so common before and the way people would pair them seemingly with random coords and they look good every single time

It's actually my go to if I’m not sure how coord a main piece; black x white kc, white blouse and my striped socks!

Bonus

Carrying a stuffed animal with you! Make them an essential part of coords again!

Lolita 52 Challenge / day 10 / How I first found out about Lolita

I knew very vaguely about lolita fashion around 2020 just by being active on the internet, TikTok to be specific. The only thing I remember was people arguing about the name, to me it was always a fact that lolita fashion doesn’t come from the book, but I had never explored the fashion/subculture any deeper than that but I was intrigued by j-fashion in general (it’s exhausting that people STILL argue about it today)

Despite being an outsider I was still able to recognize the fashion. My first time seeing a lolita in real life was this black girl at a bus stop dressed in all pink. When I got off the bus I told her she looked really cute and asked what the style was called (just to strike up a small conversation), she called it coquette, I was 100% it was lolita, so I was really confused but didn’t push any further. Thinking back on it now, maybe she didn’t want to say “lolita” in fear of confusion

Anyways I think meeting a black girl fully embracing a kawaii style changed something in me and I hope by being myself, I too can inspire other black people to embrace their authentic selves and not be afraid to take part of alternative (and especially kawaii) spaces

In late 2024 I started getting into lolita fashion too and Angelic Pretty’s 2010 OTT sweet era is was inspired me the most, before I turned to old school (casual) sweet. The image on the right is one that really struck to me. OTT sweet isn’t my thing anymore but Starberry Parlour Tiered JSK (which used to be my dream dress) will always hold a spot in my heart

The image on the right is on that really stuck to me at the time. OTT sweet isn’t my thing anymore but Starberry ParlourTiered JSK (which used to be my dream dress) will always hold a spot in my heart

Lolita 52 Challenge / day 9 / 5 keywords that describe my personal Lolita style

Old school

this era is where I get all my inspiration from ^_^

Sweet

self-explanatory! I never really considered getting into any other substyle, sweet and cute is truly the
one for me

Simple

this kinda ties back into old school. I wouldn’t say coord back then where automatically simple but for example compared to today’s average, there is a major difference generally speaking. Also my meaning of old school is more about how the clothes were worn daily, so you’re not gonna find THAT many antiquate details when there are just your everyday clothes you know

Comfortable

back with the lifestyler aspect, I need my coords to be comfortable so I can wear them for prologue amount of time

Poodles!

I love 99% of things that feature poodles motifs and I want it to be a permanent part of my lolita coords! So far I own 4 mainpieces that feature poodles (3 of which are part of my daily wardrobe) and I’d like to collect more mainpieces but also accessories and bags. I love that all my friends know how much I love poodles and recommend to be products featuring them~

Lolita 52 Challenge / day 8 / Why don't I wear Lolita more often?

Well, I claim to be a lifestyler, and it’s true! but I only wear lolita if I plan on leaving the house, most of the time I'm in my pyjamas at home, I don’t feel the need to get dressed up if I'm not planning on going out anywhere

I wear lolita when I’m attending my university classes, I wear lolita to hang out with my friends, I wear lolita at cons, I wear lolita to run errands and I sometimes wear it at home for fun of it even if I have no plans. It gives me kind of an energy boost! I might start cleaning around a bit, I record fit checks and take pictures, and also researching about lolita fashion feels special when you’re wearing the clothes at the same time!

Picture of the week - week 10

I’m picking this picture for as the picture of the week! It was taken not too long after that lolita/j-fashion sale event I went to Sunday the 19th. I still cant believe I managed to score two wishlist items in one day and I’m so happy about the way the skirts fit me, especially this Meta skirt

For a long time I avoided skirts because I was worried about the way they wouldn’t suit me, but I realized that I could enjoy them too, a whole new world with lots of new opportunities opened up to me and I plan on taking full advantage of it…

I’ve been adding a lot of skirts to my wishlist especially from Meta and I’ve started to pay more attention to cutsews too! (recently bought one from ETC)

I’m really excited about my new coords for the future! Right now I'm heading towards a very casual sweet direction and I'm loving it <3

Lolita 52 Challenge / day 7 / Why I wear lolita?

To be honest, when I first got into lolita it was out of boredom. I’ve been wanting to do something different with my appearance, so I went on tiktok and looked at different j-fashion styles. I had heard about lolita before, but I didn’t know anything about it except that the name had nothing to do with the book, so I decided to learn more about it and that’s how I started to fall in love with lolita fashion

Of course I really liked it’s appearance too, but I especially loved the message, the intention and the values behind this fashion. I spend a lot of time reading essays and any other projects (?) related to lolita fashion written by other people. It’s around that time I discovered Novala Takemoto and he’s been holding an important part in my heart and lolita journey since then

Today I’d like to say I wear lolita fashion because not only is it beautiful, it bring me a lot of joy. In fact it makes me the happiest in the world. I love the strong sense of community, and I love the shared love we all have for these clothes with people today and also those in the past. I personally don’t wear it as a sign of rebellion, but I recognize those who did, and I respect them a lot, I’d like to carry their honor and keep being myself no matter what. And especially as a sweet old schooler I love how daily-like the coords look and I want to achieve that too as a lifestyler

I love how community driven this subculture is

I love the way lolitas strive to preserve and document the subculture

I love the infinite amount of ways you can style a coord

I love the euphoria when you see your coord in a reflection

I love the ability to shop for clothes that are over 15 or even 20 years old

I love planning different coords in my head

I love the way lolita makes me feels cute, makes me feel pretty and I’d like to continue wearing this fashion everyday

Lolita makes me so happy

Lolita 52 Challenge / day 6 / My favorite Lolita brand

Having to pick only ONE brand is really hard…But I decide to go with Metamorphose Temps de Fille, specifically the old school era (I prefer all my favorite brands old school)

I’d like to start with their blouses. Theres so much variety from more dressed up to simpler and I appreciate their T (tall) size SO much. And even today, modern Meta accommodates for underrepresented body types well. I might be biased but I think there should be more tall releases, just make the sleeves and blouses longer!

A lot of their old blouses seem to have back shirring with waist ties and not only is it a practical combo but really beautiful too. I desperately want  to collect more old school meta blouses!!

I love our shared loved for poodles... ੯•໒꒱ Items with poodle motifs are usually the ones I look for/gravitate towards and honestly I just feel like Meta gets me like no other. I like their sailor themed items and I feel like Meta is quite experimental too! Their cutsews and cardigans are also cute, honestly they cover all the basics!

Right now I'm hyperfixated on skirts so I haven’t looked much at JSKs lately but Meta’s are so well constructed and there’s a lot of varying styles. I’m more into the basic sweet style. Speaking of skirts I really admire how they release multiple lengths of the same design. I now know to go for mini but before getting my hands on my Meta skirt I always assumed the midi length would be best suitable for a tall person like me, so I really appreciated there was an option for us too ^_^

I currently own one Meta skirt and I’m so in love with it! I didn’t expect it to fit me so well! I was a few skirts in my wishlist, and I should spend a day looking over more of their designs and add them to my wishlist too, there’s so much left for me to discover!

May more old school Metamorphose Temps de Fille find it’s way to me~

Lolita 52 Challenge / day 5 / My wardrobe turnover

Since I’m still in the process of building a coherent lolita wardrobe, there’s not much for me to get rid of unless there’s something I don’t like (anymore), like those socks I gave away to one of my friends. I’m glad she liked them! ^_^

But I do have some smaller accessories left from when I was into Jirai-Kei, I’ll try to sell them on Vinted once I'm back in my apartment, I left them all in box there.

Lolita 52 Challenge / day 4 / Favorite thing to put on my head

The humble head bow!

More specifically the type with a headband. It’s just the cutest thing ever and I love the way it frames my head! Even when I wear something casual, I have to have a head bow on me no matter what…Nothing makes me happier than a perfectly seated KC, I especially love it when they sit flat near the hairline. I reallywanna buy a Cameron Head Bow from BABY, it’s a staple piece I’m still missing from my wardrobe

Lolita 52 Challenge / day 3 / What is my own lolita lifestyle like

It's a bit hard for me to define a "Lolita lifestyle"

I know there are people out there who strive to adopt maiden like mannerism, lifestyle choices, habits and activities, but calling myself a lolita lifestyler I mean that I wear the clothes on a daily basis for pretty much anything; Hanging out with friends, outings, running errands…but the clothes themselves don’t really influence my behavior. I think instead I’ll list out things that I’ve started doing ever since I became a lolita lifestyler!

I go out way more and socialize with people

Before I used to be a shut in and isolate myself a lot, but lolita fashion drove me to leave the house and see people since I needed an excuse to wear out the clothes. Wearing lolita got rid of my social anxiety and I’ve regained confidence in myself! I've made amazing friends and met so many kind people...❤︎

I’m more mindful about my clothes

Well this is for obvious reasons! I’ve learned good laundry habits and how to take care of different fabrics and stains, how to use different products (and what to avoid). I’ve also learned how to sew buttons (since those always seem to come off...)

Developed a bad spending habit (lol)

I used to be so stingy before..a literal Mr.Krabs but after entering the world of j-fashion it slowly changed me…I don’t mind it though since I’m spending my money on something I love and something I can wear for years to come. I love lolita more than anything and its worth every penny. And to give myself some grace my money is well spent on second hand items, custom orders and made to order items. I’m proud of the wardrobe I’ve built!

2026 / 1 year lolita wardrobe update

23.7.2025
I don't have everything here with me, some things I bought are still on the way and I might have some stuff back in my apartment. I will update this blog post as I photograph more items that I’ve purchased before today July 23rd 2026!

My taste and style but also brand preference have refined a lot, I'm really happy with my collection! ^_^

Main pieces

Jumperskirts

Shirley Temple Snow Town Pattern Fur Collar JSK
I took the fur collar off since I only wear this dress as a skirt! I don't know how to style but it's very cute and convenient this way. She didn't have a Lolibrary page when I bought her so after a few days of research I managed to whip out one for the JSK and OP ^_^

洋子的工作日
Most comfortable dress I own. This is my lolita equivalent of a t shirt and she’s been through a lot..!

洋子的工作日
Dress so good I had to get it in another color!

Innocent World Bambi JSK
My first brand piece. This dress was an unexpected purchase but I lover her so much!

Emily Temple Cute Cookie Pop JSK
This purchase was my first time scroing a wishlist item and it happened pretty fast too! :)
狗狗便利店
This JSK is the most dressed up one I currently own. I still find it cute and usually wear it ar cons but I'm not sure I would buy anything in this style anymore
蜜狐餐厅2.0
Same as the previous one, not really my style anymore but I wear this sometimes at cons and parties

Skirts

Metamorphose Room Print Skirt (Mini Length)
+ Room Print Ribbon Headband
Bought this recently at a lolita/j-fashion sales event, this was one of my wishlist items. She came with the matching KC but the headband itself is missing so I wear it on my head with a hairclip!

Jane Marple Viyella Gingham Poodle Skirt

This one was also a wishlist find from the sales event last week, I originally had the jsk on my wishlist but the skirt is super cute too! I can't believe she's actually mine!

Blouses

BABY Back Pintuck Blouse
This blouse was a long time dream of mine and I got it in mint condition for a really good price! Around 70€
random taobao blouse

There are multiple stores selling this exact same blouse so the tag doesn't matter. Cute cheap and convenient

士多啤梨官配衬衫
Cute blouse I purchased via reservation on Taobao

芒椰巧脆
    Another cute purchase!

Socks

I'm quite happy with the socks I got so far, but I still need more diversity in my wardrobe

Shoes

From left to right: teaparties from Antaina, Bodyline La Vie en Rose RHS, random black shoes from zalando. I also have a pair of black boots from my normie wardrobe. I think I can go quite far with these but I still want a pair of round toed black mary janes with the thick soles and pink or black RHS once I got the extra money

Miscellaneous

Here are some of the accessories I’ve got so far. I seriously need to stack up on more…I’m missing the very basics and its embarrassing! I also want more necklaces, especially crown and key motifs from Jane Marple

Lolita 52 Challenge / day 2 / 5 movies for Lolitas

This is very hard for me. I’m not familiar with any lolita movies aside from Kamikaze Girls of course (highly recommend reading the book too) and the short film Mister Rococo

I started Peep “TV” Show a few weeks ago but never finished it oops…I went to see online what other lolita movies there are and found this Letterboxd list. Some movies on there are more or less convincing

I'm picking 2 titles I haven’t seen but seem interesting in order to complete my list. I should try to make it my objective to finish every movie on this list

Images and descriptions copied from Letterboxd

Kamikaze Girls (2004)

The extraordinary adventures of a Lolita-look aficionado and a tough biker gang chick.

Momoko, a strange and seemingly emotionless girl obsessed with 18th century France, befriends a Yanki biker and the two experience the ups and downs of their unusual lives in a rural Japanese town.

Mister Rococo (2010)

A romantic comedy about a girl who gets over her lost love in her way.

Peep "TV" Show (2004)

As the first anniversary of the September 11 attacks approaches, peeptvshow.net begins broadcasting hidden camera footage of women and couples in their apartments at night. An aimless teenage girl comes across the site’s admin in Shibuya.

Happiness (2024)

Yukio Kunikida and Yuma Yamagishi are high school students and they are dating with each other. On an ordinary day, Yuma tells Yukio that “I’m going to die in a week.” She knows that her illness has progressed and has accepted the fact that her days are numbered. She wants to live the rest of her days being true to herself. Yukio finds it difficult to accept that Yuma has just a short time left to live, but he occupies himself fulfilling her wishes.

Wonderful World End (2014)

Shiori’s blog attracts the attention of Ayumi, a timid 13-year-old girl. Ayumi’s growing infatuation takes an unforeseen turn when she runs away from home and infiltrates Shiori’s life.

My new obsession: Skirts!!!

I remember writing about BABY's Cards Lace Round Collar Blouse and why it would be a perfect addition to my wardrobe (which still stands!!) but I made an unexpected encounter…I ran into Meta’s 2007 Short Sleeve School Blouse while scrolling on Lacemarket, I clicked on the listing because of how elegant she was with the mini tie and sinched waist. It was love at first sight and I fell in love deeper looking at the listing’s pictures and seeing that the back had shirring alongside waist ties

You cannot imagine how pleasantly surprised I was seeing the measurements of this blouse. It was longer than usual and the LM listing mentioned that this might be the T size mentioned on Lolibrary. So I messaged the seller to confirm this, and I let them know that I’m looking for something similar to BABYS’s back pintuck blouse and comparing the two, the seller let me know they’re similar in length!

The original price was at $81, and I was preparing to try to haggle the price down a little, but it kept going down by itself during the day, I was ecstatic and immediately purchased it for $72. She currently resides with my friend in the US because the local shipping was only $10!

She checks off all my requirements from the previous blog, so I’ve started looking at skirts a lot since a whole new world opened up to me… I'm really excited to finally be able to wear them too. I’ve added a lot to my wishlist and would like to talk about some of them <3

(This find also drove me down an old school Metamorphose pipeline but that’s a conversation for another post~)

God Save The Lolita Print Skirt

I’ve been obsessed with this quote for over a year now. It’s my motto I have it written in all my social media bios and I’d like to get it tattooed too. Naturally I want the skirt (and tote bag too). Both black and pink would be great, and white too if were being greedy…I haven’t sale activity history for this one, but we are meant to be so I have hope!

Metamorphose Poodle Skirt (2004)

Everyone knows how much I'm into poodle motifs, especially when its an appliqué. Plus this is an old school meta piece so it’s only natural for me to gravitate towards this… I don’t have an actual vision of a coord or how this would look on me but the design is quite simple I can pull it off easily

ETC Closet Print Skirt (2006)

I used to be obsessed with the black x white colorway (still am) but I recently fell in love with the all-pink colorway HARD. I simultaneously lost interest in the pink x black colorway (I realized that the pink in that one had a more purple tint to it..not my thing…) This piece is so much fun to coord in my mind. Theres lots of details I can bring out in different ways. For example a small pink polka dot ribbon tie to match the ribbon on the skirt! I’ll adore this skirt to death once I get my hands on her

BTSSB Princess Skirt

This is another great staple piece for the old school sweet wardrobe that I am building. I’m not sure how often this skirt gets re-released (I'm assuming quite regularly) but I am looking for any old release. On the right I picked the 2008 release as an example

Lolita 52 Challenge / day 1 / 5 pieces that every Lolita wardrobe should have, regardless of style

a vivienne westwood boston bag

A reliable black handbag for daily use

I could argue you could even go for a dark brown/blue or white bag, but I feel like black is the most suitable and diverse option.

demonia dollie

A comfortable pair of black mary janes

These have been around in lolita fashion since the dawn of times and alongside with bags, I feel like shoes are something you don’t have to worry about so much because they go with pretty much anything if you got a neutral color!

a&a daily wear a-line 45cm

A medium sized/daily wear petticoat

Nothing too big or too small (depending on your style and what you’re going for) but the idea is something that gets the job done and suits every style

BTSSB back pintuck blouse in white

I can’t emphasize enough how much of a classic staple piece this blouse is. I believe everyone should have this gorgeous blouse in their wardrobe or any other white blouse tbh (long or short sleeve), but this one is just special in my opinion.

A pair of plain white socks

This one goes without saying. With or without a lace trim is totally optional, in this case I could recommend BTSSB ribbon lace knee socks! I’m a little biased and wanted to suggest black x white striped socks but I can understand it might not be suitable for every style. White socks it is then!
